Clay Jenkinson is J.Robert Oppenheimer
Clay Jenkinson is J. Robert Oppenheimer A Fundraiser for Raue Center and CL Public Library Foundation. Friday, October 25, 2024 | 7:00 PM Tickets:$45/ $49 / $59* Jenkison’s “living theatre” emphasizes education with audience participation to enhance the learning and entertainment experience. J. Robert Oppenheimer was the father of the atomic bomb; he was also a tragic character. In 1954, his security clearance was stripped from him by the U.S. government. Although history has been generous to Oppenheimer and hard on his critics, there is no doubt that Oppenheimer contributed to his fall. Clay Jenkinson brings the character of the man to life through a gripping first-person portrayal of Oppenheimer –no prior graduate degree in quantum physics is required! Jenkinson tells the story of Los Alamos, of the dramatic test of the “gadget” in the New Mexican desert, the decision to use the bomb without warning on Japanese cities with a large civilian population, and the aftermath. Oppenheimer believed that humankind must evolve quickly to prevent the subsequent use of atomic weaponry in war because he believed it would bring about the end of human civilization. In the end, Oppenheimer was rehabilitated by the Kennedy-Johnson Administration. After Edward. R Murrow interviewed him on the CBS program “See it Now,” Oppenheimer became a kind of cult figure for his melancholy, yet whimsical, genius. *Fundraiser for Raue Center and CL Public Library Foundation. RaueNOW Membership and other discounts do not apply. Join us for an exclusive post-show meet and greet at Raue Center For The Arts following Clay Jenkinson’s captivating performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer. Hosted in Raue Center’s Café, you’ll enjoy an intimate gathering with the humanities scholar and fellow guests. Pat McGann is quickly rising as one of the sharpest stand-ups in the comedy world. A relative latecomer to the scene, Pat began stand up at the age of 31 after realizing he was not very good at selling packaging. He hustled his way to become the house emcee at Zanies Chicago, where he distinguished himself as especially adept at working the crowd. A father of 3 young children, Pat’s appeal stems from his quick wit & relatable take on family. In 2017, McGann began touring as the opening act for Sebastian Maniscalco, moving with him from clubs to theaters, and to arenas, including 4 sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden. McGann’s relatively short, but impressive resume, includes performances on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Montreal’s famed Just For Laughs Festival, Gilda’s LaughFest, The Great American Comedy Festival, and the Nashville Comedy Fest. Prashant’s virtuosity in Kathak makes him one of the outstanding male dancers of his genre today. The first recipient (for Kathak dance) of Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Yuva Puraskar award established by the President of India in the name of legendary musician, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Prashant is also a TOP grade artiste at ‘Doordarshan Kendra’ and an empaneled artiste in the established category of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi. Often commissioned internationally to work with other dance styles like Hip Hop, Belly Dancing, Flamenco, Bharatanatyam, Modern and Contemporary dance, he has received rave reviews in newspapers such as The Hindu, Statesman, New York Times, Star Ledger, Guardian, San Francisco Chronicle, and Dancing Times. Prashant is one of the few acclaimed Kathak dancers to benefit from his Guru Padma Bhushan Kumudini Lakhia’s system which involves rigorous training while also encouraging to use dance as a mode of self-expression to scratch beyond the surface of technique. His highly developed awareness of space and its possibilities of exploring it visually in Kathak dance form along with his own traditional and contemporary ideas, drives him to work with other dance forms. Prashant’s work mainly focuses on Kathak traditional technique and repertoire but at the same time, he firmly believes there is always a scope of change and progress with current times to introduce new movements and rhythmic patterns. For this, few of his choreographies incorporate contemporary ideas within the framework of pure Kathak form. This program is a rental.——Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.Processing Fee – A $3 per ticket charge for all purchasing to support the software that enables online ticket sales.Facility Fee – A $6 per order charge that helps operate and invest back in our historical venue. For more information, please visit rauecenter.org.Updated safety policy 5.23.22: Masks are no longer required for most shows, but are recommended.
