Jay Goeppner, arguably one of the best Lennonesque singers on the planet, assumes the role of John Lennon. This 100-minute retrospective begins in 1966 when the Beatles made the momentous decision to stop touring and concentrate solely on music composed in the studio which led to albums like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Rubber Soul, Revolver, The White Album, Abbey Road, and the rooftop concert for Let It Be, as the Beatles’ final performance. The second half of the show showcases Lennon’s solo career from The Plastic Ono Band, to his signature album Imagine, to Sometime In New York City, Mind Games, Walls & Bridges, Rock & Roll and concludes with selections from John and Yoko’s final recording, Double Fantasy, released prior to his death on December 8, 1980. Jay Goeppner and his crack Soundtracks band intertwine these songs with multimedia images to create the monumental musical and emotional impact that John Lennon brought to the world. A former member of the Billy Joel Band, Jeff Jacobs appeared on both of Joel’s number one hits, “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “River of Dreams.” He has appeared on several of Joel’s albums and tours, most notably “Storm Front” and “River of Dreams,” and has earned the title of “The Piano Man’s Piano Man,” which Joel himself has used to describe Jacobs on many occasions. An accomplished pianist, vocalist, keyboardist, producer, composer, and storyteller, Jacobs was also a member of Foreigner from 1992– to 2009 and toured with Foreigner vocalist, Lou Gramm. The Evening of Percussion will feature multiple groups of outstanding performers from all over the region, including Girls on the Drum (drumline for middle school girls), the Crystal Lake Thunder (competitive winter drumline), the Strikers All-Stars (high school drumline), the Kingpins (drumline for special needs performers), the Convergence Winter Guard and more to present a high-energy night of percussion. The Strikers will also award scholarships to local high school students including the Tim Althoff Memorial Scholarship and the William Laskey Memorial Scholarship during the event. The Crystal Lake Strikers was formed in the fall of 2007 when three area men sat in a local coffee shop imagining the possibility of forming an organization that would achieve the essential goals of providing a performing outlet for drummers of college-age and beyond as well as supporting and educating aspiring young performers. This Crystal Lake favorite is sure to be a sell-out!
